TB 2-page letter written and signed by Vidocq on February 13 - Lot 15
TB 2-page letter written and signed by Vidocq on February 13, 1852. "I dare say that the services I have rendered have paid for this allowance. I am 79 1/2 years old, but I have retained all the strength and energy of a man of forty". François Vidocq was a French adventurer born in Arras in 1775 and died in Brussels in 1857. A former soldier, he was sent to the penal colony of Brest as a swindler. He escaped and became head of the security brigade. Balzac drew inspiration from him for the character of Jean Vautrin in Père Goriot and Splendeurs et misères des courtisanes.
