19. BOYER DE SAINTE-SUZANNE (Victor-Emile-Charles). Les Inte - Lot 19
19. BOYER DE SAINTE-SUZANNE (Victor-Emile-Charles). Les Intendants de la généralité d'Amiens (Picardie et Artois). Paris, P. Dupont, 1865. Fort in-8, 611 p., pl., fawn morocco, ornate ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet on covers, crowned numeral in spandrels, double fillet on edges, inner gilt lace, gilt edges (Trautz-Bauzonnet). First edition in a remarkable signed binding from the bookbinding workshop of Georges Trautz and Antoine Bauzonnet. A copy preserved by the author's family, containing an albumen print of his portrait pasted to the verso of a flyleaf. Other albumen prints of engraved portraits in hors-texte plates. This copy contains 5 handwritten letters mounted on tabs for binding with the body of the book. These are thank-you letters for sending the book, signed by Philippe de Bosredon du Pont, Victor Duruy and other Second Empire personalities. The first letter, dated October 17, 1865, reads: "Yesterday I was able to present your work to His Majesty: the Emperor asked me if it was well done and interesting? I answered affirmatively and said only what I thought. The spine tint has darkened, a few light fungal spots on the boards, other defects are minor, a fine copy.
