111. MIRABEAU (Honoré Gabriel Riqueti Comte de). Elégies de Tibulle suivies des Baisers de Jean Second. Paris, s.n., 1798. 3 volumes in-8, xix, 375 p. ; 393 p., [4] p. ; 388 p., [4] p., marbled fawn basane, smooth spine decorated (period binding). Edition based on the original, corrected in Sophie Ruffey's hand, which she disposed of before her death. It is illustrated with 14 hors-texte plates, most of them of an erotic nature and signed by Antoine Borel (1743-1810). Provenance: from the library of Jean Debry (1760-1834), attested by his bookplate engraved with the imperial eagle on the back cover. Jean Debry was a deputy at the Convention, where he voted for the death of Louis XVI, and a member of the Comité de salut public (Public Safety Committee), before coming into contact with Bonaparte and being re-elected to the Cinq-Cents. He cooperated in the Floréal coup d'état and was appointed Prefect of Doubs. During the Hundred Days, he accepted the prefecture of Bas-Rhin from the Emperor, but was dismissed during the Second Restoration and exiled to Mons, where he lived out his remaining years. Two worn headpieces, one dull corner, split jaw on the upper cover of the first volume, freckles and browned pages, a few rare paper defects in the margins, other defects are minor. (Cohen, 993 but figures in black).
