149. [STEELE (Richard) & ADDISON (Joseph). Le Spectateur - Lot 149
149. [STEELE (Richard) & ADDISON (Joseph). Le Spectateur ou le Socrate moderne, où l'on voit un portrait naïf des mœurs de ce siècle. Paris, Robustel, 1754-1755. 9 vol. in-12, marbled fawn basane, ornate ribbed spine. As its title indicates, the aim of this translation of the English gazette was to offer a critical analysis of human behavior, while informing readers through light, colloquial observations. One volume lacks title-pieces and tomascale; other defects are minor.
