242. DORE (Gustave). La Sainte Bible. Tours, Mame, 1866. 2 vol. in-folio, publisher's red and gold boards. Ornamentation of the text by Giacomelli and plates by Gustave Doré. First edition of the beautiful woodcut plates. Text on two columns, separated by ornamentation by Giacomelli. Binding rubbed, worn, gilding faded, old repairs to spines. Some foxing. The first volume is complete with 119 plates, but the second volume contains only 87 plates (out of 109). Also illustrated by the same artist, Fables de la Fontaine. Paris, Hachette, 1868. Popular edition in 1 vol. in-folio, bound in half black chagrin, spine decorated with false nerves, title page in red mar. Headbands worn, spines rubbed, corners very dull, one corner with cardboard missing. One index page torn, but not missing. 2 angular paper tears on the first blank page and on the title page. Paper a little chamoised, a few corners of pages bent, some foxing. Not collated.
