261. BOYER (Charles Maurice de). Mémoire d'ensemble sur les - Lot 261
261. BOYER (Charles Maurice de). Mémoire d'ensemble sur les opérations de la brigade topographique. Undated (circa 1830). In-folio, 192 p., stiff half vellum, top cover entirely calligraphed to represent the title. Unpublished military manuscript of the memoir presented by Captain Charles Maurice de Boyer to the royal staff corps as aide-de-camp to the lieutenant-general commanding the 5th military division. The memoir describes the territory of some fifty kilometers around Montbéliard in the Doubs and gives strategic details of its position in the region stretching from Alsace to the Rhine and Bas-Rhin. Also included is a handwritten plan on tracing of the Antwerp citadel. The manuscript contains many details on the appearance and constraints of the site around 1830, and also explains the difficulties involved in defending Alsace. In historical terms, the Napoleonic campaigns of 1814 and 1815 are transcribed. Damage to binding, some foxing.
