He intercedes on his father's behalf with prefect Jean Debry (unnamed) in order to put pressure on the president of the Besançon court to speed up a trial. The second one-page letter, addressed to citoyen Debry (unnamed), is dated 4 messidor an 5 (June 22, 1797). In this letter, he refuses his resignation: "We need the consideration and confidence that your character and patriotism should (dispose?) for any association of which you are a member. It also talks of rallying Count Alexandre Edmé Pierre Villetard, whose enlightenment we absolutely need. This document therefore seems to be strongly linked to the historical context of the coup d'état of 18 fructidor an V (September 4, 1797).
