289. [Napoleon's wedding]. Set of 3 LAS addressed to Jean De - Lot 289
289. [Napoleon's wedding]. Set of 3 LAS addressed to Jean Debry by Michel Pierre Dorothée Clerc (1762-1848), dated December to February 1810, in which he relates details of the deputation for Napoleon's marriage to Marie-Louise of Austria. One of the letters was sent postage prepaid, with postmarks.
In it, Clerc describes at length his deputation to the reception at the Tuileries Palace, reporting several curious details. The wedding was scheduled for March 20 or 30 (it finally took place on April 2, 1810, after a civil ceremony on April 1). During the First Empire, Clerc held the position of First Advocate General at the Besançon Court of Appeal. In 1815, during the Hundred Days, he was deputy for Doubs.
